While the team formerly called the “Redskins” in Washington has yet to confirm a new team nickname, a user on Reddit thinks he may have figured it out. Someone calling themselves “staticrush” has found that, on July 15th, the “same company that registers & manages Redskins.com registered a new domain.” That domain is “DCSentinels.com.” For those scoring at home, that’s the same team name that was once considered for Washington, DC’s XFL franchise.
The Red Wolves has been emerging as a favorite. One problem, a school called Arkansas State.
Arkansas State is already wrapped up in a legal dispute with the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga over the name Red Wolves. In 2018, Chattanooga registered the trademark with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office; three months later, ASU issued a cease-and-desist letter. The two schools are now set to appear in federal court before possibly heading to a trial that could drag into 2021.
