Nice news to coincide with Aretha Franklin's 75th birthday tomorrow (Saturday).Plans have come together to repair Aretha Franklin's childhood home in Memphis. With city officials putting together a private-public partnership, the future looks brighter for the dilapidated cottage that was declared "a public nuisance" five years ago.TV's DIY Network is said to be involved, as is a local college and an unnamed "music foundation."Alan Crone, special counsel to the mayor of Memphis, calls the house at 406 Lucy an "historic property and it's part of our heritage as Memphians that all kinds of music was literally born here." While he says Mayor Jim Strickland "wants to save it and he wants to facilitate that conversation, it's going to ultimately be up to the community and music community of Memphis and the nation to decide whether this is something that they want to save and put their money where their mouth is. We're going to do everything we can to try to get us to that point.
